Introducing “Vision 2030: Fresh Energy’s Strategic Framework”

By |

We are living in the decisive decade. The time is now to make changes if we are to avoid the worst impacts of the warming climate. The actions we take between now and 2030 will determine our future, and while we have made progress together, we need to drive bold action now to reach our goal of fully decarbonizing our economy by mid-century.

To drive the transformational change that we need to achieve our goal, we are thrilled to share “Vision 2030: Fresh Energy’s Strategic Framework,” which charts the path to swiftly, equitably decarbonize five crucial sectors of our economy using three proven strategies.

With “Vision 2030: Fresh Energy’s Strategic Framework,” we are leaning into our role shaping, driving, and implementing carefully crafted policy solutions. “Vision 2030” also charts a course for Fresh Energy to double down on our clean electricity, transportation, and buildings work and also turn our solutions-focused expertise to decarbonizing heavy industry and agriculture. In addition to this, we are building on our years-long commitment to equity by elevating and embedding it into how we design policies, drive change, work with partners, and beyond.

For more details about the work we foresee within each sector, watch this short video that debuted at our Benefit Breakfast in October 2024.

Fresh Energy will formally launch “Vision 2030” in early 2025, but we have been carefully developing the framework for more than a year with extensive input from nearly 50 expert staff and board members. Read more about the process and thinking behind “Vision 2030.”

Simultaneously, a staff working group convened to explore and recommend updates to Fresh Energy’s Core Values and Guiding Principles that guide our work. The Board of Directors approved both the Strategic Framework and the Core Values and Guiding Principles in October of 2024 and it will officially launch on February 1, 2025.

The energy landscape has changed dramatically since Fresh Energy’s founding three decades ago, as has the social and political landscape of engagement in the climate crisis. Fresh Energy has evolved to meet the moment by embedding deep commitment to racial and economic equity in our Strategic Framework. Equity is at the heart of our work as well as our organizational “Core Values and Guiding Principles,” and we believe that collaborative action must achieve a decarbonized economy that benefits all.

The science is clear — and the extreme impacts we are already experiencing only makes it more clear and more urgent: the earth’s climate is changing, causing massive disruption and costly disasters that disproportionately harm those least able to afford it.

As 30-year experts in energy and climate, Fresh Energy understands that there are solutions within reach that can help us prevent the very worst damages of climate change. But there is not a moment to waste, and there is no time for tepid incremental progress.

Bold policy solutions that address the climate crisis are more important than ever. With the continued support of Fresh Energy’s partners, friends, and donors, we are working to ensure that Fresh Energy’s expertise and capacity are directed at the highest leverage solutions to swiftly and equitably decarbonize the economy.
