For nearly 35 years, Fresh Energy’s mission has been to advance a clean energy economy that benefits all Minnesotans. Working in the public interest to advocate for clean energy policy has and always will be Fresh Energy’s center of gravity.
As Fresh Energy’s new Chief Executive Officer, it is my honor to continue Fresh Energy’s legacy of leadership. I step into this role in the midst of a climate crisis. A crisis compounded by a federal government that is in a state of adversarial climate denial.
It is an irrefutable fact that by furthering reliable, clean, and cost-effective energy solutions, we can improve public health, lower the cost of the electricity that powers our lives, and boost Minnesota’s economy with family-sustaining jobs — to name just a few of many critical benefits. Fresh Energy’s decades of leadership and success stems from our nonpartisan approach to energy policy, working with any and all Minnesotans who believe that clean air, clean water, and good jobs are key to Minnesota’s thriving future.
At a time when nonprofit organizations working in the public interest are under attack, Fresh Energy is not alone. We stand alongside a large community of nonprofits committed to improving the quality of life and the strength of our civil society. Fresh Energy works in the public interest to advance clean energy as a strategy to address the climate crisis, improve public health, and grow economic benefits for our state. Fresh Energy’s role in this community is distinct and crucial. We will not back down from boldly and ambitiously pursuing our mission.
Our Core Values of courage, optimism, responsibility, and equity guide our work. This is a moment to courageously lean into these Core Values. We will not shy away. We stand strong in our commitment to tackling difficult challenges to achieve our mission – even when these challenges come in the form of political threat.
Since Fresh Energy was founded, we have been at the forefront of our field in demonstrating best practices for nonprofit operations and compliance, which has enabled us to be bold and ambitious in advancing our mission. In these unprecedented times, it’s my commitment to you that you can trust that Fresh Energy will not falter in our work — but we ask that you, in turn, remain committed to your support of Fresh Energy.
