Fresh Energy statement: Renewable energy and electric transportation are the path forward

By |

Fresh Energy applauds Governor Walz and his administration for deciding to continue an appeal of the Line 3 oil pipeline, a legal process originally initiated by the Dayton administration.  Electric transportation is only becoming cheaper and higher performing—and is increasingly becoming powered by low-cost wind and solar energy. Instead of investing time and resources into unneeded fossil-fuel infrastructure, Minnesota should speed the transition to electric vehicles powered by renewable energy.

Wind power is a boon for local economies, employing more than 3,000 people in Minnesota. And renewable energy farms pay roughly $14 million a year to Minnesota counties for roads and schools. Clean-energy investments create jobs for builders, technicians, engineers, clerical employees, and maintenance workers.

Our executive director, Michael Noble, released the following in response:

“Today’s decision by Governor Walz is an important step in following and respecting due process. Minnesota’s energy future must be in the best interest of future generations and Governor Walz made that clear today.”
