As managing director, transmission policy at Fresh Energy, Mike Schowalter advocates for the decarbonization of our wholesale electrical grid, with a specific focus on the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). Much of Mike’s time is in partnership with other clean energy organizations, working together as Environmental Stakeholders within MISO’s planning process.
Prior to joining Fresh Energy in June, 2021, Mike practiced environmental and renewable energy law, with an emphasis on project financing and development. Mike also has an extensive background in international human rights and development, with experience working throughout Eastern Europe and Asia. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Maryland, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law. When not absorbed in energy policy, Mike will likely be found outside trail running or cross-country skiing.
