J. Drake Hamilton is Fresh Energy’s managing director, science policy. An expert in climate and energy policy at the state and national levels, her responsibilities include scientific analysis and policy solutions to global warming that will maximize economic opportunities. J. represents Fresh Energy at global climate summits and will showcase Minnesota’s nation-leading deep carbon reductions at the November 2026 Turkey summit, bringing our bold climate actions to the global stage.
Hamilton is an energizing public speaker who presents each year to dozens of businesses and civic organizations. J.’s frequent media appearances include television, Minnesota Public Radio, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. J. earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical geography from Dartmouth College and the University of Minnesota, with an emphasis on climatology and water resources, and she was formerly assistant professor at The George Washington University.
Hamilton’s household in 2024 invested in a solar garage that powers their household and charges the Hamilton electric vehicle. Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine named J. Drake Hamilton “one of Minnesota’s 100 influential people who make things happen.” The Hamiltons of Saint Paul grow organic peaches, pears, cherries, apples, plums, and grapes that have won 64 ribbons (mostly blue!) at the Minnesota State Fair.
