When I joined the Fresh Energy team this spring, I was honored to come to an organization not only known for its long history of energy and climate leadership, but renowned for its team of driven and super-effective staff. I have had the opportunity to meet so many of you now—passionate supporters, clean energy advocates, and climate heroes—and from all of you I hear stories of how Fresh Energy and our amazing staff have been and continue to be your trusted leaders in Minnesota’s energy transition.
From ideation to reality, tackling strategic energy policies at all levels is baked into how staff approach taking on climate change at scale. But each and every clean energy and climate policy Fresh Energy works on is only possible because of our supporters like you. As we look ahead to our ambitious goals for the coming year, I’m confident you will continue to see Fresh Energy’s fingerprints shaping Minnesota’s clean energy future. We’re already working hard to:
- Drive continued scrutiny of our natural gas system through technical policy engagement. We’re also collaborating to educate and activate Minnesotans through the Clean Heat Minnesota coalition, a new, multiracial coalition we cofounded alongside COPAL and CUB Minnesota.
- Partner with communities across Minnesota to determine how they can most effectively tap federal and state dollars to support their vision for vibrant neighborhoods, electrification, and local clean energy.
- Secure retirement dates for coal plants serving Minnesotans and continue minimizing fossil fuels in our electric system to align with Minnesota’s climate goals.
- Develop an ambitious 2024 legislative session agenda, building on existing momentum to drive decarbonization across buildings, transportation, industry, and agriculture while accelerating the implementation of Minnesota’s landmark 100% clean electricity law.
