Fresh Energy Statement: Xcel Energy’s EV Vision is Call for Bold Action

By |

On August 12, 2020, Xcel Energy announced a new electric vehicle (EV) vision aimed at saving customers money and reducing carbon emissions from the transportation sector. Xcel will be working to increase the number of EVs on the road within their service area to more than 30 times what it is today – amounting to 1.5 million EVs.

“Transitioning our transportation system away from fossil fuels is a crucial step to slowing climate change and cleaning up our air – both of which disproportionately affect communities of color and under-resourced communities,” said Anjali Bains, Senior Policy Associate, Beneficial Electrification at Fresh Energy. “Xcel Energy’s vision for 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2030 is a call for bold action that we at Fresh Energy applaud. Our long-standing efforts to advocate for and elevate policies that support a transition to electric vehicles, like Clean Cars Minnesota, work in tandem with Xcel’s goal. Together, all Minnesotans can strive toward a cleaner, more equitable transportation system.”

Xcel Energy’s plan for Minnesota includes supporting residential charging, increased access to electric transportation for all customers, fleet electrification, and expanded public charging options. Read Xcel’s news release and statements from other supporting organizations.
