In 2023, the Minnesota Legislature made 100% clean electricity the law of the land in Minnesota. But passing this landmark legislation was only the first step. Now and over the coming years, Minnesota’s elected leaders will need to step up and reduce barriers to ensure our state can achieve 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040.

This legislative session, legislators are working to clear the path to 100% by updating our state’s siting and permitting process for critical transmission lines, solar, wind, and storage.

The proposed Minnesota Energy Infrastructure Permitting Act (HF4700/SF4784), authored by Senator Nick Frentz (North Mankato) and Representative Jamie Long (Minneapolis), would help supercharge Minnesota’s ability to get renewable energy and clean energy transmission online faster by modernizing our approach to the permitting process. It’s an essential step to achieving 100% that we can’t afford to put off.

We anticipate the final outcome of this bill will be decided very soon as the Minnesota Legislature nears completion of the 2024 legislative session. It is imperative that your legislators hear from their constituents who support renewable energy and transmission as crucial elements to 100%.
