On December 5, Saint Paul Public Schools announced that Fresh Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Brenda Cassellius was one of three candidates for the position of superintendent. We have learned today that Brenda was not chosen for the position and our thoughts are with her as she takes in this news.
We acknowledge that over the past weeks, this developing situation has created uncertainty. In that time, Fresh Energy’s Board of Directors has been actively working alongside Brenda on the potential of her candidacy to ensure the organization’s continued success and stability is prioritized.
Being selected as a finalist for the SPPS Superintendent’s position has led Brenda to reaffirm her passion for and commitment to public education. She has determined that she will continue her efforts to return to a position in that sector in the near future.
Brenda will work with the Board of Directors to establish a timeline and process that ensures a successful transition of leadership and centers Fresh Energy’s mission and values, and to advancing the goals of the new strategic plan. We deeply appreciate not only Brenda’s leadership but also her transparency as she engaged in this public process. At this time the Board is in full control of the situation but are keeping aspects of it confidential given the highly sensitive nature of the circumstance. We will provide more details as they become available.
As an organization committed to taking on one of society’s biggest challenges, we have deep respect for others who are also striving to make the world a better place for future generations. It is undeniable our public education system is crucial for shaping future climate advocates, and we know the education sector will benefit from the knowledge, commitment, and enthusiasm that someone like Brenda Cassellius brings.
Fresh Energy has been making effective, meaningful policy change for more than three decades. Thanks to the strong foundation of Fresh Energy’s leadership, the Board of Directors, and staff, Fresh Energy is in a strong, secure, and future-focused position. We will continue to shape and drive bold policy solutions to achieve equitable carbon-neutral economies.
