Michael has built Fresh Energy into a visionary and practical group of professionals who shape and drive progress in energy and transportation policy. Michael has been the lead strategist for dozens of public policy innovations in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy development, solutions to climate change, and market-based efforts to reduce reliance on coal and oil in Minnesota and the Midwest region. He organizes and engages partners from business, non-governmental groups, policy leadership, and private philanthropy to advance this vision. With deep instincts for entrepreneurship, Michael has served as the CEO of four successful energy companies in the private and nonprofit sectors since 1980. With a strong bias toward collaboration, he has served as a founding board member of Wind on the Wires, Climate Generation: a Will Steger Legacy, Minnesota Environmental Partnership, Conservation Minnesota, and the Conservation Minnesota Voter Center. He is also a founding member of RE-AMP, a Midwest collaboration to reduce carbon pollution by 80 percent or more, and served in many leadership roles between 2004 and 2014. He is a graduate of Carleton College with a BA in History.
