This year, the Public Utilities Commission will decide whether to approve Xcel Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which lays out how the utility plans to invest in electricity generation over the next 15 years. Through these plans, the public and organizations like Fresh Energy can influence actions such as more renewables, closing coal plants, not building new fossil gas infrastructure, and more. Read more about Xcel’s plan and Fresh Energy’s response to it here.
Right now, Xcel’s plan includes a proposal to build a massive fossil gas plant in Becker, Minn.
After being denied another public hearing on the plan, MN350 and partners—including Fresh Energy, Sierra Club, the Citizens Utility Board, and the Institute for Local Self Reliance—are holding a People’s Hearing to make sure more community voices are heard before the June 25th public comment deadline.
Join us on June 15 from 6:00 – 7:30pm for a virtual hearing to testify on what future you want for our climate and communities in Minnesota. Attendees will have the opportunity to testify for up to two minutes each.
This is the home stretch of our chance to stop Xcel’s planned gas plant and instead ramp up renewables and community solar for Minnesota. Register to attend!
