During the first year of his Administration Governor Walz has announced major initiatives to combat climate change pollution, including legislation to commit Minnesota to 100% carbon-free electricity as well as Clean Cars Minnesota, an initiative to reduce pollution from the transportation sector. Fresh Energy strongly supports seeing both of these initiatives through to completion. However, it is clear that Minnesota can and must do more.

On Monday morning, Governor Tim Walz announced Executive Order 19-37, establishing the Climate Change Subcabinet and the Governor’s Advisory Council on Climate Change. This action lays the groundwork for deeper and bolder action, spurring collaboration both within state government and between the public and private sectors as Minnesota works to address the unprecedented threat of the climate crisis.

Fresh Energy Executive Director Michael Noble issued the following statement in response:

“Governor Walz is exactly right when he says that tackling the climate crisis demands bold thinking and deep collaboration. Today’s executive order once again demonstrates Governor Walz’s commitment to leading on climate in a way that brings Minnesotans together. Fresh Energy applauds the creation of the Subcabinet on Climate Change and Governor’s Advisory Council on Climate Change.  We look forward to helping achieve the dramatic carbon reductions we need at this juncture and supporting continued leadership from the Walz Administration and the State of Minnesota.”
