SUMMARY:Cumulative impacts of air pollution: Community open house
DESCRIPTION:For many neighborhoods and communities in Minnesota\, decades-old permitting and zoning decisions by local\, state\, and federal governments have resulted in heavily polluting industrial and manufacturing facilities located near homes\, schools\, and parks. These decisions have left too many Minnesotans disproportionally exposed to harmful pollutants. \n\n\n\nTo start correcting this problem\, the Minnesota Legislature has directed the MPCA to address the cumulative impacts of air pollution in the permitting process. This affects community members and about 110 facilities within environmental justice areas in the Twin Cities seven-county metropolitan area and the cities of Rochester and Duluth. The MPCA is beginning a rulemaking process to determine how to implement this new law. \n\n\n\nPlease join this community open house to learn more about what cumulative impacts are\, who they affect\, and how you can get involved in this rulemaking process. \n\n\n\nGet the details!\n\n\n\nAttend a meeting:\n\n\n\n\nSept 12 (1-3) – Virtual\n\n\n\nSept. 14 (6-8 p.m.) – St. Paul (Metro State University – Science Education Center Atrium)\n\n\n\nSept. 19 (5-7 p.m.) – Brooklyn Center (Brookdale Library)\n\n\n\nSept. 21 (6-8 p.m.) – Duluth (Clyde Iron Works Event Center)\n\n\n\nSept. 26 (6-8 p.m.) – Rochester (Graham Park – Aune Hall)

SUMMARY:Back to School: It’s Electric!
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota students deserve to breathe clean air — and we have a unique opportunity to make it happen! Thanks to federal funding\, it’s easier than ever to get FREE electric buses in our school districts. \n\n\n\nThe EPA’s Clean School Bus Rebate Program opens this fall\, and there is money on the table to get as many MN students on electric school buses as possible. Join MN350 for an educational and inspiring evening learning about how you can support your school district in making electric school buses a reality for students in your community. \n\n\n\nLast year\, MN only got 4 electric school buses in the first round of federal funding. Even South Dakota got double that! We have a lot of catching up to do\, and it’s time to prove that MN prioritizes our students’ health. \n\n\n\nRSVP

SUMMARY:Capitalizing on Climate Cash: State Strategies for Leveraging Federal Funding
DESCRIPTION:With hundreds of billions of climate dollars unlocked by recent federal funding initiatives\, including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)\, states must be prepared to receive and leverage their money for climate and clean energy plans\, projects\, and programs. Many states across the country have already introduced and even passed legislation to create or strengthen state and local funding bodies and initiatives for this purpose\, using various methods\, from statewide green banks to specific federal matching funds and more. \n\n\n\nTo explore the approaches some states have taken\, Climate XChange invited a panel of experts\, including: \n\n\n\n\nFresh Energy’s Anjali Bains\, Lead Director of Energy Access and Equity \n\n\n\nNevada Clean Energy Fund‘s Kirsten Stasio\, Chief Executive Officer\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRegister for this FREE virtual event!

SUMMARY:Alternative Fuel Corridor Public Engagement Meetings
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Office of Sustainability & Public Health will host in-person conversations about the next round of nominating roads as Alternative Fuel Corridors. They are seeking input from interested members of the community on the future corridors and would like your perspective! No registration is required to attend\, and the same agenda will be used in all locations. \n\n\n\nMnDOT invites and encourages participation by all. If you need an ASL\, a foreign language interpreter\, documents in an alternative format (such as braille\, large print or in a different language)\, or another reasonable accommodation for this email or event\, please email your request to Janet Miller at ADArequest.dot@state.mn.us or call 651-366-4720. \n\n\n\nGet the details!\n\n\n\nBackground\n\n\n\nThe U.S. DOT Alternative Fuel Corridor Nominations process started under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST) Act in 2015 and was modified a bit under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Minnesota currently has two roads designated as Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFC) for Electric Vehicles – I-94 and I-35. This designation is important in determining how some of the federal IIJA funds can be spent on charging stations\, the numbers\, type\, etc. \n\n\n\nRound 6 of nominations happened in February – May 2022 with a focus on DC Fast Chargers and Interstates. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has not released the criteria for the upcoming Round 7 yet\, but it is anticipated in the first half of 2023. \n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\nReview of the MN Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan status\n\n\n\nDiscuss pros and cons of designating additional roads as AFCs\n\n\n\nUnderstand the capacity and interest of communities and utilities in various levels of EV charging.\n\n\n\n\nLocations\, Dates\, and Times\n\n\n\n\nApril 14: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Location at MnDOT Rochester Headquarters\, 2900 48th Street NW\, Rochester\, MN 55901-5848\n\n\n\nApril 27: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Location at MnDOT Duluth Headquarters\, 1123 Mesaba Ave.\, Duluth\, MN 55811\n\n\n\nMay 3: 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Location at Windom Community Center\, 1750 Cottonwood Lake Dr.\, Windom\, MN 56101\n\n\n\nMay 11: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Location at MnDOT Baxter Headquarters\,7694 Industrial Park Road\, Baxter\, MN 56425-8096\n\n\n\nMay 11: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Location at MnDOT Bemidji Headquarters\, 3920 Highway 2 West\, Bemidji\, MN 56601

SUMMARY:Conservation Improvement Program (CIP) Low-Income Workshop #3
DESCRIPTION:For the third meeting in our Conservation Improvement Program (CIP) “Low-Income”+ Workshop series\, participants heard from experts on the topics of efficient fuel-switching\, financial incentives for utilities\, and pre-weatherization measures\, with time for discussion on each topic afterward. Slides can be downloaded here and a partial recording of the meeting is above (the recording begins during the discussion portion after the first topic presentation\, fuel switching): \n\n\n\nAs a reminder\, these meetings are being organized by the MN Department of Commerce and the MN Energy Efficiency for All coalition\, to provide a space for participants across the energy efficiency ecosystem in Minnesota to learn about and provide input to investor-owned utilities’ 3-year energy efficiency planning for under-resourced customers (CIP “Low-Income” programs)\, which is currently underway. \n\n\n\nMeeting #3 concludes the broad topics portion of these workshops\, with the remaining two meetings focused on providing specific feedback to utilities’ CIP “Low Income” draft plans. \n\n\n\nQuestions? Email Anjali Bains at bains@fresh-energy.org. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn case you missed the first two workshops or would like a refresher\, you can view meeting materials online via the following links: \n\n\n\n\nTo view workshop #1 materials\, click here. \n\n\n\nTo view workshop #2 materials\, click here.
