The American Planning Association has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to create a guidebook that will help inform community regulations on the location of wind energy facilities.
The siting of wind turbines, transmission lines, and other facilities will become an increasingly important part of land-use planning as more states (like Minnesota) create renewable energy standards that help us transition to more clean and renewable energy sources.
It is very encouraging to see city planners and the Department of Energy working proactively to think about the best ways to site wind energy infrastructure. The guidebook will be released in 2011.
