With Target Field now open, how to get to a Twins game? At least for the half dozen regular season games that have been held to-date, the answer for many folk is to take transit. Hiawatha light rail and Northstar commuter rail both come directly to Target Field, and Metro Transit has added a special express bus route (Route 679) from stops along I-394 directly to the field.
Target Field can seat a little over 39,000. Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin reports that 17 percent of attendees so far have arrived via one of those three transit options - Hiawatha, Northstar, or Route 679. And there are also over a dozen other regular bus routes that can bring fans close to the Field.
Folks are biking to the Field as well. All 400 bicycle racks are full and more will be added soon.
The Northstar commuter rail opened last November. Overall, ridership is tracking at or above expected levels, averaging 2,200 per day during the work week. The surprise has been the phenomenal success on weekends. Over the April 21-22 weekend, ridership topped 8,600!
