The American Clean Energy and Security Act (also known as the Waxman-Markey bill) contains key policies designed to increase savings by cutting energy waste and helping people and businesses become more energy efficient. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has analyzed the dollar savings and job creation potential of energy efficiency provisions in the bill, and reports on the huge impact of energy efficiency--the nation's cheapest and most abundant energy source--on reducing global warming pollution.
Significantly, enactment of this legislation could save approximately $750 per household in energy costs by 2020 and $3,900 per household by 2030. Savings from cutting energy needs will be reinvested locally, thus causing a multiplier effect on economic activity and new jobs. ACEEE estimates that approximately 250,000 jobs will be created by the energy efficiency provisions in the bill by 2020, with a total of 650,000 jobs created by 2030. Read the ACEEE analysis.
The U. S. House of Representatives is likely to vote on this clean energy jobs bill during the week of June 22.
