President Obama made another first today by celebrating his first Earth Day while in office. If this is any indication on how future Earth Day events will go, we have a lot to look forward to.

President Obama took his Earth Day message to the state that jumped started his presidential run--Iowa. He took this opportunity to sell the term "green jobs" even further as the solution for the United States' environmental and economic troubles. With the new green economy being a main focus of his administration, he took the time to outline various federal initiatives that will lead to new green jobs.

While visiting Iowa, President Obama had a chance to visit a wind tower plant and outlined the new Department of Interior rules that clear the way for the first wind turbines to be built on the Atlantic coast, leading to increased production and workforce. Obama said this new development would allow the United States to generate as much as 20 percent of its electricity from wind by 2030--creating 250,000 new green jobs.  His bold move to push for a cap-and-trade system will further advance this type of job creation.

Talk about a breath of fresh air. To have a president talk about green jobs, wind development, and reducing carbon makes everyone feel we will conquer the task of a new renewable energy economy.
