Tom Elko, Media Center Director
Tom joined Fresh Energy in August 2011 as the media center director leading our media relations agency that helps Upper Midwest nonprofit groups reframe public discourse on energy, in support of one overarching goal: an 80 percent reduction of global warming pollution in the region’s electricity sector by 2030. Most recently he was a co-founder and director of digital media at Bring Me the News, a successful Minneapolis-based start-up. Prior to that Tom has served as editor, technical director, and producer of journals, news sites, and magazines. He was also the founder and producer of an environmental news website on important conservation issues in Greater Minnesota as well as a fellow of the Knight Center Great Lakes Environmental Journalism Training Institute. His value for environmental stewardship and honesty in communication and energy reporting drew him to Fresh Energy. Tom holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota. He is a member of both the Society of Professional Journalists and Minnesota Society of Professional Journalist.
