Fresh Energy lauds Xcel’s decision to pursue 1,500 MWs of wind

St Paul – Today, Xcel Energy issued an RFP to add 1,500 megawatts of wind power. Fresh Energy played a key role in actively engaging with Xcel and the Public Utilities Commission in shaping a cost effective resource plan. Fresh Energy executive director Michael Noble, released the following statement:

“We’re proud to see Xcel Energy capture the value of historically low prices for wind and to further diversify their energy mix. We applaud Xcel’s leadership in integrating increasing amounts of renewable resources while continuing to decarbonize their system. Utilizing fuel free resources like wind and solar help reduce costs for customers while supporting the local businesses that build these new projects. Xcel’s visionary leadership on reducing the use of imported fossil fuels in the electric system is a model for utilities and energy companies across America.”
