state of green businessThe State of Green Business Report is one of the most widely read reports identifying key global trends in corporate sustainability. Fresh Energy is one of two non-profit organizations included among the report’s 10 video profiles of sustainability leaders.

Created by GreenBiz Group, the 80+ page report (PDF download) ”assesses the performance of U.S. companies in the S&P 500 index as well as those in the MSCI World Developed Index, which includes more than 1,600 companies in 24 developed markets. It also offers up the 10 trends for 2016 that we think you should be watching,” writes Chairman and Executive Editor Joel Makower.

Edited down for this report, my conversation with GreenBiz’s Shana Rappaport was about how corporations can get the maximum benefit from their switch to solar energy by asking for a biodiverse mix of plants to be grown under and around the panels.

In the United Kingdom, they have already established a set of best practices for biodiversity on solar sites (2014 press release, PDF report), as the solar industry grows through the U.S., capturing these additional benefits can be as simple as including a line in the initial request for proposals.
