St. Paul — Fresh Energy has hired Rob Davis as director of strategic communications. As a member of Fresh Energy’s leadership team, Davis will devise and implement communications strategies that advance Minnesota’s clean energy economy and increase stakeholder engagement.
Davis joins Fresh Energy from Pioneer Public Relations, his innovation-focused media relations and marketing services consulting practice. Prior to starting a business, Davis was the director of external relations and communications at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) where he led a team in design and implementation of the college’s new brand identity, grew annual media coverage from less than one million impressions to more than 25 million impressions, and created partnerships with Kickstarter, the Walker Art Center, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Prior to joining MCAD, Davis worked in Frankfurt, Germany for clients including the world’s largest open source company, Red Hat. As a senior counselor for Haberman, Davis created a national grassroots campaign to launch the Firefox web browser, managed public relations for Compellent prior to the company’s IPO and acquisition, and served as brand strategist for a variety of consumer and technology companies.
Davis also serves as chair of the Whittier Alliance Business Association and is a member of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce 2013/14 leadership development cohort. Davis’s creative work has been covered in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, and WIRED; referenced in the 25th anniversary edition of Trivial Pursuit; and included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
Davis is a two-time recipient of the Teresa Du Bois Exline Award for Best Practices in Communications and Marketing and is a graduate of Macalester College.
