Fresh Energy welcomes Tom Elko to the RE-AMP Media Center
For Immediate Release: August 17, 2011
ST. PAUL – We are pleased to announce hiring Tom Elko as the director of the RE-AMP Media Center at Fresh Energy.
Tom comes to Fresh Energy with the right background and skill sets to move the Media Center forward—entrepreneur, journalist, and technical whiz. As an entrepreneur, Tom is most recently a co-founder and director of digital media at Bring Me the News (BMTN), a successful Minneapolis-based start-up. While there, he developed innovative news curation and sponsored-content sales models that deliver both high reader engagement and click-through rates.
As a journalist, he has served as editor, technical director, and producer of journals, news sites, and magazines. At The Uptake, a nationally recognized web-based news site, he developed video content including live-streaming of public affairs. He was also the founder and producer of an environmental news website on important conservation issues in Greater Minnesota as well as a fellow of the Knight Center Great Lakes Environmental Journalism Training Institute.
In addition, Tom has directed many aspects of platform development for content management systems, mobile applications, digital distribution, and social media strategy.
The Media Center at Fresh Energy publishes the website Midwest Energy News and delivers media strategy and content to a network of more than 135 collaborating organizations. After an evaluation of the Media Center led by Katie Eukel of Fourth Sector Consulting, we are ready to move ahead with a content-centered media strategy. The staff and board of Fresh Energy are excited for Tom to lead this effort.
